Embracing "Other"

Embracing "Other"

An Interfaith Sunday School & Westminster Academy Series

In this interfaith series, we will spend four weeks learning about the Jewish experience. We will explore everything from the Holocaust to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to the realities of our own identities. Rabbi Lord Jonathan Sacks says, “For though my faith is not yours and your faith is not mine, if we are each free to light our own flame, together we can banish some of the darkness of the world.” This is ultimately the goal of this series—to listen, to learn, and to love.

Please join us for any or all of these classes!

Sunday School Series

Sundays, February 10, 17, 24, & March 3  •  9:45–10:45 am  •  Fellowship Hall

Sunday, February 10 — A Survivor of the Holocaust

We will begin the series by hearing from Frances, a local Holocaust survivor, who has graciously agreed to share her story with us. We hope you will take advantage of this opportunity to hear the incredible testimony of this brave woman. We want to extend deep gratitude to both Frances and the Tennessee Holocaust Commission for making this happen.

Sunday, February 17 — Israel/Palestine: An Interfaith Perspective

Katie Rosenson, our Intern for Adult Education, will lead us as we look at the current Israeli-Palestinian conflict and attempt to explore some of its complexities. Katie will share her experience traveling in Israel/Palestine summer, bringing a unique perspective to the table as she was raised in an interfaith home with a Jewish father and a Presbyterian mother.

Sunday, February 24 — Chaplain Beatrix Weil

We are so excited to welcome Beatrix Weil to Westminster Presbyterian Church. Beatrix is the chaplain at Rhodes College in Memphis, TN.

Sunday, March 3 — Identity: How We Interpret the World

How does your identity affect how you interpret the world and relate to those different from us? Following a brief word from Katie Rosenson regarding her experience being raised in an interfaith home, we will have an opportunity to explore our own identities as we move through the world by making identity charts.
