Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) Happenings: February 2010
Your Pastor Nominating Committee (PNC) is making good progress in the search for our new pastor. We have narrowed the field from several hundred prospective candidates to a small group and are genuinely excited about each of these experienced leaders. We are continuing to do our due diligence while building relationships with each candidate. The criteria we are using are contained in our Church Information Form (available in the PNC section of the Westminster website) and are as follows:
• Powerful, thoughtful and enthusiastic preacher
• Able to engage the congregation in pursuing a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ
• Committed to challenging and helping the Westminster congregation to live out our Church mission statement in our daily lives
• Able to teach the Bible and Reformed theology, engage in theological discussion and support a spectrum of educational opportunities
• Secure enough in one’s Christian walk to work with others who hold theological/social opinions and viewpoints different from one’s own
• Proven leader who builds trusting relationships of mutual respect with congregation and staff
• Receptive, accessible, empathetic
• Able to lead and effectively administer a large church with multiple staff members
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Emotionally healthy, with balance in life
• Respected in the larger church and the broader Christian community
What an exciting description of the next pastor of our church! We are meeting as a group two to three times each week. Our goal is to finish this stage, which includes continued phone interviews, reference checks, and other important homework, and then move to the next key phases of face-to-face interviews and finalizing a recommendation as soon as reasonably possible.
When will we be finished? We are unsure because there are a number of variables including the timing issues of the candidates we are interviewing. We know the Holy Spirit is in the midst of this process as we try to discern God’s will for Westminster’s future leadership.
Working together is a blessing for each of us on the PNC. Thank you for your prayers, patience and continued support.
