DISCIPLE Classes Forming
DISCIPLE is a program of disciplined, small-group Bible study designed to deepen both biblical knowledge and a sense of community in a context of study, prayer, preparation, support, and servanthood. Many in the congregation have already experienced the dynamic difference of scripture study in this format and willingly bear testimony to the transforming impact the classes have had on their faith and life as disciples of Jesus Christ. A prayer-breakfast is scheduled for Thursday morning, August 22, beginning at 7:45 am, when fellow church members will share of their experiences and answer questions about this unique study.
DISCIPLE believes that the Bible is key to renewal and growth in the church and affirms that the canon was formed as it is for God to speak to us. Thus, the study gives equal time to the Old and New Testaments and emphasizes the wholeness of the Bible for God’s full revelation. The participant’s book is part commentary, part journal; and each class provides daily readings for reflection in preparation for small group participation. Additionally, each class draws on the work of biblical scholars who provide lectures on video to aid in the understanding of the week’s focus. A commitment to preparation and attendance is a priority since the curriculum is designed for class sizes of twelve.
DISCIPLE is a four-phase study beginning with a survey of the entire Bible and followed by three in-depth studies of parts of scripture. The first study in the program is DISCIPLE: BECOMING DISCIPLES THROUGH BIBLE STUDY, a thirty-four week overview from Genesis to Revelation.
